How I work

While I could fill volumes with all the things I've learned about product design, here are some of the more important lessons I've learned along the way.

Get the band together.
Design, Dev, and PM start projects together and meet frequently. No throwing stuff over the fence, ever.

Talk to users. Track insights.
Every product team needs regular exposure to users. The insights learned need to be tracked and shared.

Bring in experts early.
There are folks in the org who have knowledge that will impact the project. Bring them on to help from the start.

Be agile. For real.
As a feature is being built, you learn. Doing is learning. Design needs to be able to change in-flight. This is the way.

Longer projects need small, testable releases.
Software needs to be used to improve. 6-month releases with no usable software until the end is waterfall, even if you’re working in sprints.

Show, don't tell.
Talk is cheap. Even if you're not a designer, I encourage everyone to show their ideas in any way that’s comfortable to them.
